OGRA holds hearing on gas sales licenses of private companies

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has initiated formal proceedings on the applications filed by the private sector for gas sale, under which a public hearing will be held on January 16.
The applicant companies have taken the position that they want to supply gas to consumers using the existing gas network of Sui Northern and Sui Southern. The application also states that private companies want to purchase gas directly from gas fields and sell it in the market.
According to OGRA officials, the applications have been approved for hearing after preliminary examination so that the views of all concerned parties can be heard. Technical, legal and consumer interest aspects will be considered during the public hearing.
Sources say that if these licenses are issued, competition in Pakistan’s gas sector can be promoted, however, the final decision will be taken after public hearing and regulatory review.
