New peace progress in Gaza, Israeli cabinet approves hostage exchange

Gaza: The Israeli government has approved a major agreement on a ceasefire and hostage exchange in Gaza. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was also attended by US special representative Steve Witkoff and former US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

A statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said that the cabinet has approved the agreement to release all hostages. Under the agreement, about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners will be released, while the Israeli army will partially withdraw from Gaza.

Meanwhile, according to the news agency, the Israeli army has reached the border from the southern city of Khan Yunis and the central area of the Nusra refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. The road to the Mediterranean coast near Gaza City has also been cleared, after which rescue teams have resumed work in the affected areas.

Rescue workers said the bodies of 10 Palestinians killed in previous airstrikes had been pulled from the rubble.

The first phase of the Trump peace plan, which includes the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, is being hailed as a positive step towards the peace process.
