Islamabad Red Zone Sealed as US, Iran Delegations Arrive for Expected Talks

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital has been placed under heightened security as Islamabad’s Red Zone was sealed off on Sunday ahead of the anticipated arrival of delegations from the United States and Iran for expected diplomatic talks.

According to Islamabad Police, the Red Zone and its extended areas have been completely closed to all kinds of traffic. The announcement was made via X, where authorities also shared alternate traffic plans to facilitate citizens.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon confirmed that public and heavy transport services have been suspended in the city until further orders as part of the security arrangements.

Sources indicated that advance teams from the visiting countries have already reached Pakistan. These teams arrived at Nur Khan Airbase, where at least three US cargo aircraft landed carrying personnel and logistical support.

Following their arrival, the teams were moved under tight security to Islamabad’s high-security zone, where preparations for the expected talks are underway.

Authorities say the measures are temporary but necessary to ensure security and smooth conduct of high-level diplomatic engagements in the capital.
