Internet speed affected across Pakistan, fault identified in submarine cables

Islamabad: Internet service is not working as usual in most parts of the country and users are facing continuous problems in uploading and downloading.

Social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp are also affected by the situation where users are facing difficulties in sharing photos, videos and voice notes.

A PTCL spokesperson explained that a fault has been reported in the submarine internet cables off the coast of Saudi Arabia near Jeddah. Due to this fault, the bandwidth of SMW4 and IMEWE has been partially affected, however, the service has continued to be provided through alternative routes.

According to the spokesperson, there may be a reduction in the quality of service during busy hours in Pakistan, but international partners are working for immediate restoration. At the same time, PTCL’s local teams are also providing alternative bandwidth to minimize the impact on users.

The spokesperson said that we are grateful for the cooperation and patience of users and are working to fully restore internet service as soon as possible.
