ECP’s Strict Action Against Federal and Provincial Figures

Islamabad: As the election atmosphere heats up in the country, the Election Commission of Pakistan has intensified action against important government and political figures for violations of the code of conduct. The ECP has summoned Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Special Assistant Huzaifa Rehman and several successful candidates on December 2.

According to sources, Huzaifa Rehman was asked for an explanation earlier too, but she has been issued a notice again for not submitting it. Successful PML-N candidates Bilal Chaudhry and Mehmood Qadir Khan have also come on the commission’s radar.

The situation became more serious when the Election Commission summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi again for alleged violation of the model code of conduct. The hearing of the case will be held on December 4, for which the ECP has issued a formal notice. Along with this, Shahrnaz Omar Ayub and NA-18 candidate Babar Nawaz have also been included in the investigation.

Election observers say that the recent behaviour of the Election Commission is proof that it has no intention of giving any party or candidate a break in the upcoming elections.

According to experts, the ECP’s strict policy is an attempt to restore public trust and make the electoral process transparent. According to experts, “These measures strengthen the process of accountability in the political environment and help improve the quality of the election campaign.”
