ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) has issued a major public advisory, warning citizens of a sophisticated online scam operating through Google Maps. A fraudster has successfully listed a fake “passport office” on the popular mapping service, complete with unauthorised contact and payment details, with the aim of defrauding applicants.
According to the department’s official statement, the individual behind the scheme is using fake phone numbers and email addresses to request passport-related payments. The scammer is falsely claiming to be authorised to receive funds directly through Jazz Cash and various personal bank accounts.
The DGIP has strongly emphasised that its standard operating procedure strictly prohibits any individual or staff member from accepting payments through personal channels. All passport fees and related charges should be processed only through designated, official bank receipts or authorised payment methods.
The agency urged the public to exercise extreme caution in protecting their personal and financial information, advising against making any payments to unauthorized persons claiming to represent the Passport Office.
In a direct warning to prevent financial loss, the DGIP issued a clear advisory:
“Beware! Do not share your personal details or make payments to unauthorised persons.”
