Crackdown on environmental pollution begins in Punjab, ban on cooking with coal and wood

Lahore: The Environment Department has intensified operations in all cities of Punjab, including Lahore, due to the growing concerns of smog. According to DG Environment Imran Hamid Sheikh, all hotels and barbecue points that use coal, wood or charcoal are now being marked at the provincial level.

He has clarified that within fifteen days, all cooking centers will have to install suction hoods so that smoke does not spread into the air. He says that direct action will be taken against places that spread smoke, grease or odor in the open air.

According to the Environment Department, immediate fines will be imposed against violators and cases will also be registered under the law. EPA field teams have been given special powers of checking and sealing, under which monitoring will be carried out on a daily basis.
