Changes in net metering: LESCO eliminates the condition of backup meters

LAHORE: Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has made a significant change in the net metering system for industrial and commercial customers and has removed the mandatory requirement of backup meters. Now, customers will install only one “LT TOU” smart meter, which will be equipped with the latest AMI technology. This policy will be applicable initially to new customers who are applying for net metering.

Due to this change, consumers will be able to save an estimated Rs 125,000, which includes the cost of the meter of about Rs 45,000 and the cost of the AT box of Rs 80,000. Energy experts have termed the decision as welcome and user-friendly, saying that this move is a positive step towards the promotion of renewable energy, which will not only popularize solar technology but also provide financial convenience to consumers.

This new policy of LESCO is being described as a viable and affordable solution for consumers in the context of rising electricity prices, which will further strengthen the trend towards solar energy.
