Lahore: In view of the increasing incidents of online crimes in Pakistan, PTA has directed citizens to be very careful. According to the authority, fraudsters collect biometric data of citizens under the pretext of free SIM cards, prizes and fake financial assistance, which is later used in illegal activities.
The PTA clarified that giving a SIM in your name to someone else is a punishable offence, and every user should share their personal information only with authentic sources.
In this context, social media company Meta, in collaboration with PTA and EYEYAH!, has launched a digital awareness campaign called Is This Legit? This programme is part of an effort to educate the public about online fraud methods and prevent digital deception.
This campaign is being carried out in more than 15 countries under the scope of Meta’s Asia Pacific programme. Dania Mukhtar, Meta’s public policy head in Pakistan, says that they take action against fraudsters who target various social apps every day, so making people aware is an important step.
He appreciated the cooperation of the PTA and said that through joint efforts, it is their shared mission to provide users with a safe experience on the internet.
