Abbas Araqchi’s call with Field Marshal Asim Munir, discussions on regional tensions and diplomatic efforts

Islamabad/Tehran: In the context of the ongoing tense situation in the Middle East, Iran has further intensified diplomatic contacts with important countries in the region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held separate telephonic talks with senior officials of Turkey and Oman, including Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and discussed the latest regional developments.

According to Iranian state media, the talks between Abbas Araqchi and Field Marshal Asim Munir reviewed the overall security situation in the region, the growing tensions and recent developments. The Iranian Foreign Minister condemned the US attacks on Iran and informed his country of his country’s position.

On the other hand, the Iranian foreign ministerforeign minister also had separate telephone conversations with Omani foreign ministerforeign minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaid and Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan, in which the changing situation in the region and diplomatic measures were discussed in detail.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, regional security and the possible effects of the increase in tension were discussed during the talks. The foreign ministers of the three countries agreed that in the current circumstances, it is imperative to keep diplomatic channels active to prevent the spread of the conflict and that all parties should prioritise the path of negotiations.

A statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the progress regarding the ceasefire, regional stability and the possibilities of advancing diplomatic efforts were also discussed during the talks between Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Abbas Araqchi.

Analysts say recent diplomatic contacts indicate that countries in the region are giving importance to efforts to resolve the crisis through political and diplomatic means amid rising tensions. They say such contacts can not only help reduce the chances of misunderstandings but are also considered a positive development for regional stability.
