Lahore, Pakistan— Khawaja Saad Rafique, a top leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has pointed out that fake news is becoming a serious problem that requires immediate focus. In a speech from Lahore, Khawaja Saad Rafique stressed the need to talk to media organizations before changing the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Khawaja Saad Rafique emphasized that protecting basic rights is very important, and any legal changes should involve discussions with those affected. He pointed out that new laws can backfire on the lawmakers when situations change, highlighting the importance of thinking carefully about changes to the law.

The PML-N leader suggested that high courts should be allowed to hear appeals against decisions made by panels set up under the PECA law. He said this would make the judicial process fair and clear.Khawaja Saad Rafique said that decisions made by judges should be able to be appealed in higher courts to ensure justice and responsibility.

Khawaja Saad Rafique’s statements are part of the ongoing discussions about how the PECA law is being misused and how it affects free speech. Critics worry that the rule could be used to silence opposing views, while supporters believe it is needed to fight hacking and false information.

The PML-N leader’s suggestion to talk to all parties shows a wider need for involving everyone in creating policies, especially those that impact media freedom and people’s rights. His comment matches the party’s position on making sure that laws are fair, reasonable, and protect everyone’s rights.
