ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has announced a slight increase in petrol prices, which will be applicable from June 1, 2025, for the next fortnight. The adjustment comes after a period of relative stability in fuel prices.

According to a notification issued by the Finance Division late on Saturday night, the price of petrol has been increased by one rupee per liter. The new price of petrol has now been fixed at Rs 253.63 per liter, up from the previous rate of Rs 252.63.

In contrast, the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) will remain at Rs 254.64 per liter, providing some relief to the transportation and industrial sectors that rely heavily on diesel fuel. Similarly, the prices of Light Speed Diesel and kerosene have also been maintained.

The decision was taken on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and in consultation with the concerned ministries. Although the increase in petrol prices is modest, it reverses the downward trend seen since mid-April.

Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) also announced a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for June 2025. The price of LPG has been reduced by Rs 4.62 per kg, making an 11.8 kg cylinder cheaper by Rs 54.6. The new consumer price of an 11.8 kg LPG cylinder is Rs 2,838.31. The reduction is due to a reduction in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), which directly affects the prices of local LPG producers.
