LAHORE: The Punjab government has started administrative preparations for holding Basant in March next year. Provincial authorities have started planning for security, traffic and civic amenities for the activities to be held on March 12, 13 and 14.
A meeting was held in this regard under the chairmanship of Home Secretary Punjab Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi, which was attended by senior officers of the relevant departments, including Lahore. The meeting reviewed the arrangements that may be required and coordination between various agencies.
The authorities considered advance measures to deal with the movement of citizens, traffic pressure and security situation during Basant. Representatives of the Lahore Development Authority, Parks and Horticulture Authority, WASA, City Traffic Police and the district administration also attended the meeting.
The Home Secretary directed the concerned agencies to complete the administrative plan related to Basant in time. He said that the convenience and safety of the citizens should be given primary importance in planning.
The meeting also discussed matters related to the preparation of kites and strings. The concerned persons were directed to work as per the permission procedure from the government.
The district administration has also been asked to hold a meeting for consultation with the kite flyers to ensure implementation of the rules set during Basant. The Deputy Commissioner Lahore was directed to prepare a comprehensive plan keeping in mind security, traffic management, administrative matters and civic amenities.
The aim of the initial work on Basant arrangements by the government is to identify possible problems in advance and establish effective coordination between various institutions. The final administrative measures will be taken forward in consultation with the relevant departments.
