Islamabad: The dispute between the government and petroleum dealers on the issue of the petrol relief scheme has ended.
In the talks held in Islamabad, the procedure for returning the relief amount to the dealers was decided, after which the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association announced to start implementing the scheme.
According to the Dealers Association, the government has assured that the relief amount will be paid through the State Bank. The method of transferring the money to the dealers’ accounts within 48 hours has been decided.
After this development, the process of providing convenience to the consumers under the relief scheme at petrol pumps will continue. An official notification regarding the payment system will also be issued.
At the launch of the petrol relief scheme, dealers raised questions about the mechanism for refunding the subsidy amount. They said that if they did not get the money back on time, the cost of the relief could affect their business.
This issue was central to the negotiations between the government and the dealers. The parties announced they would end the differences after agreeing on the payment mechanism.
The Petroleum Minister assured the meeting of continuing consultations with the dealers and other stakeholders.
Under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, customers of motorcycles, rickshaws and other eligible small vehicles are being given relief of up to Rs 100 per litre on petrol. The scheme aims to limit the impact of the increase in fuel prices.
Now, the important step in the practical implementation of the scheme is the payment mechanism. Timely transfer of money to dealers will help maintain the process of providing relief at petrol pumps.
The latest agreement between the government and dealers has immediately removed the hurdle that had raised questions about the scheme’s implementation.
