Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to further expand its programme to expand the scope of school cricket in the country and bring out new cricket talent from educational institutions.
On the directions of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, a plan has been prepared to take school cricket to different parts of the country. The board aims to provide competitive cricket opportunities to young players at the school level and find talented cricketers for the future.
The opening match of the second season of the PCB Talent Hunt Program for Schools will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday. The teams of Beacon House and Aitchison College will compete in the opening match.
The match will start at 2 pm, while PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony. The importance of the program related to the promotion of school cricket and providing opportunities for young players to move forward will also be highlighted on this occasion.
According to the PCB, the purpose of the school cricket program will not be limited to a specific city or region. Making educational institutions across the country a part of this activity can help test the abilities of young players and help them reach the highest level of cricket.
Through this program, players playing at the school level will get a platform to showcase their performance. The youngsters who perform well will also have the possibility of being included in the PCB’s talent development programs in the future.
A musical concert will also be organized for the fans after the opening match. Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform at the event.
The PCB has announced that the entry of the fans to the opening match and the musical concert will be free. This initiative will give more families and youth the opportunity to participate in the sports event.
School cricket is an important means of identifying players at the grassroots level in the cricket system of any country. In Pakistan too, many prominent cricketers started their cricket journey from the school and college levels. The PCB’s current program has emerged as an attempt to further organize this foundation.
