Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has restrained the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party leaders from alleged harassment and arrest ahead of its long march on September 27.
Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas heard the petition of Shoaib Shaheen, Malik Aamir Ali and other leaders. Shoaib Shaheen and the state appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioners.
During the hearing, Shoaib Shaheen told the court that it is being claimed that a series of raids and arrests have started against PTI workers ahead of the September 27 protest. He said that operations are also being carried out at the homes of some workers.
Shoaib Shaheen further alleged before the court that complaints have been received that goods and money have been taken from their homes during some raids. According to him, some families are also being allegedly harassed. He said that affidavits and CCTV footage in support of these allegations can be presented in the court.
The petitioner’s lawyer requested the court to stop the harassment and arrest of PTI leaders and to fix the next hearing of the matter at the earliest.
Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas decided to seek an explanation from the SSP Operations Islamabad on the matter. The court summoned the SSP Operations in his personal capacity.
The court stopped the harassment and arrest of Shoaib Shaheen, Malik Amir Ali and other concerned PTI leaders. Further hearing of the case was adjourned till a later date.
This development has come at a time when the PTI has announced a protest and long march in Islamabad on September 27. Other legal matters related to this protest are also pending in the Islamabad High Court. On September 14, the court also issued instructions regarding the political use of government machinery and the blocking of public roads during the protests.
