ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional security following a high-profile meeting with a US delegation including J.D. Vance, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff. The delegation’s arrival in the capital today marks a renewed effort to address pressing regional challenges through direct diplomacy.
The PMO characterised the atmosphere of the meeting as constructive, with the Prime Minister praising the commitment of all parties involved. The discussions centred on creating a framework for “durable peace”, with Pakistan positioned as a central mediator.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Constructive Engagement: PM Shehbaz lauded the willingness of the US delegation to engage in meaningful dialogue.
- Regional Facilitation: The Premier underscored that Pakistan will continue to facilitate “both sides” to ensure steady progress.
- High-Level Attendance: The meeting was attended by senior Pakistani officials, including Ishaq Dar and Mohsin Naqvi.
As the region faces various security and economic hurdles, the statement from the PMO suggests that Pakistan is looking to leverage its diplomatic weight to ensure that these talks result in more than just rhetoric. The inclusion of Kushner and Witkoff—figures often associated with significant private and back-channel diplomacy—adds a layer of intrigue to the potential outcomes of this visit.
