Lahore: NEPRA has approved an additional charge of Rs 1.1086 per unit for electricity consumers as part of the August fuel cost adjustment. This amount will be reflected in the electricity bills of October 2026.
According to the regulator’s decision, the adjustment will be applicable to consumers of former WAPDA distribution companies including K-Electric. However, specific consumers have been exempted from this additional charge.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee (CPPA-G) had requested an increase of Rs 1.7267 per unit for fuel cost adjustment. After NEPRA’s examination, a lower amount of Rs 1.1086 per unit was finally approved.
According to the data, the actual fuel cost per unit of electricity in August was Rs 8.2084, while the reference cost for this period was Rs 7.0998 per unit. The additional amount will be collected from consumers based on the difference between the two rates.
The adjustment is expected to collect a total of around Rs 19 billion from electricity consumers. Amid high electricity bills and overall inflation, this additional charge could further increase the monthly expenses of domestic and other consumers.
Nepra has exempted lifeline consumers from this additional burden. Consumers using electric vehicle charging stations and certain prepaid tariffs will also remain out of the adjustment.
According to the regulator, if a consumer’s October bill has been prepared before the official issuance of the decision, the approved adjustment can be included in the next month’s bill.
