ISLAMABAD: World-renowned technology company Apple is facing a new cybersecurity challenge, with reports of sensitive information allegedly stolen from its Indian supplier Tata Electronics being leaked on the dark web, raising concerns in the global technology industry.
According to international media reports, the files released by the ransomware group claim to contain several sensitive documents, supply chain details and internal images related to Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. If this information proves to be correct, it could be one of the most significant data breaches related to Apple’s new products to date.
According to reports, the leaked documents identify suppliers of various components, chips used in the motherboard, battery and camera modules, and many technical elements that Apple usually keeps highly confidential. The company releases its annual supplier list, but the details of which components in a particular model are obtained from which company are never disclosed publicly.
According to sources, some of the leaked files also contained Apple’s internal “Confidential” watermarks, while the codenames used in them are consistent with the company’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro project. However, these documents could not be fully verified by independent sources.
The incident has also raised questions about the security of Apple’s global supply chain. Over the past few years, Apple has shifted a large part of its manufacturing activities from China to India, where Tata Electronics has emerged as a key partner of the company. This is why the disclosure of such information is considered to be a significant issue for the company, not only technically but also commercially.
According to reports, the leaked folder also includes some images that allegedly show the iPhone 18 Pro undergoing drop tests. The images show a grey smartphone with three rear cameras; however, these images could not be independently verified either.
Sources say that Apple is continuing its internal investigation into the matter, while Tata Electronics has also restricted access to its sensitive digital systems. The company has hired international forensic experts to assess the nature of the cyber attack and the potential damage.
According to technology experts, such information breaches not only affect trade secrets but can also benefit counterfeiting groups and competing companies. If the full structure of the supply chain is revealed, the risks of future cyber attacks may increase.
Apple has not officially responded to the matter, but experts say that the company may introduce more stringent measures to protect its supply chain in the coming weeks, as confidentiality of new products is considered a core part of Apple’s business strategy.
