Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed its contact with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over security concerns related to the T20 World Cup, clarifying that no official response has been received from the ICC on the matter yet.
According to a statement issued by the BCB, Dr. Asif Nazrul referred to this contact in his statement, however, the board clarified that this correspondence cannot be considered as the final or official position of the ICC. The statement said that this contact was made only in the context of the security concerns of the Bangladesh team during the T20 World Cup.
The BCB said that in the current situation, the safety of the team and officials is the top priority, which is why the board has conveyed its concerns to the ICC and requested it to consider various options. The statement also said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has also suggested shifting its matches against India to another safe venue.
According to board officials, a final decision on this matter will be possible only with the approval of the ICC, and until then, any speculation should be avoided. The BCB clarified that it is waiting for the ICC’s response and as soon as a decision is made, it will be shared with the public.
Cricket circles say that security concerns have always been a sensitive issue in international cricket events, and every board gives top priority to the safety of its team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s stance has also come out under the same principle.
According to sources, some players and officials of the Bangladesh team are also cautious about security arrangements, due to which the board considered it necessary to formally inform the ICC.
On the other hand, the silence of the ICC has made the matter even more important. According to experts, the ICC will likely issue a decision only after consulting all the stakeholders to ensure both the credibility of the event and the safety of the teams.
The BCB also clarified in its statement that some reports circulating in the media are not based on facts and it would not be right to consider them as the position of the ICC.
According to cricket analysts, if there is a change in the venue of the matches, it could have an impact not only on the schedule but also on the overall planning of the tournament. That is why the ICC is looking at this matter very carefully.
Currently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is hopeful that the ICC will clarify its position on this matter soon, so that the team management can finalize the future strategy.
