In view of security concerns, the Punjab government has announced the imposition of Section 144 across the province. According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, recent intelligence reports had identified potential threats of terrorism, after which it was decided to immediately impose a ban on gatherings, processions and demonstrations.

Officials say that some miscreants can target sensitive gatherings and create unrest and sectarian tension. In view of this fear, advance measures have been taken to avoid any major tragedy. According to the administration, any attempt to disrupt public order will be strictly prevented.

The notification has clarified that public gatherings of four or more people will be banned and no activity will be held in public places without permission. However, law enforcement officials will be exempted from this ban. Moreover, wedding ceremonies, funerals, burials, official and semi-official meetings and court proceedings will be exempted from this ban.

The provincial home department has imposed a complete ban on the display of weapons and their use in public places, saying that this order will be applicable to both licensed and unlicensed types of weapons. According to officials, these restrictions will remain effective for seven days, after which the situation will be reviewed again.

The spokesperson said that strict instructions have been issued to the district administration and police across Punjab to ensure complete implementation of the notification. The government maintains that these measures have been taken to protect the lives and property of the people and ensure peace and stability.
