Lahore: To make the lives of citizens easier, the Punjab Traffic Police has come up with an innovative project: Mobile Police Stations and Licensing Units. The initiative means residents will no longer have to stand in long queues or spend hours at police stations for essential services.
Out of the 118 mobile units to be developed, 34 vans are already operational and will soon be deployed across the province. From learner permit and license renewal to AI-powered driving test facilities and even FIR registration, all services will now be available at the doorstep.
DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir stressed that the pink vans will be dedicated exclusively to women, helping them bypass the challenges they often face in accessing police services. The mobile units will also be linked to local police stations via GPS, ensuring seamless integration with the government system.
The daily schedule will prioritize remote areas, women’s educational institutions and offices, ensuring maximum accessibility. Officials confirmed that the formal launch is expected later this month, after which citizens will start benefiting from the service.
While the idea sounds promising, the success of these mobile stations will depend on consistency, maintenance and staff attitude. If these units manage to remain reliable and effective, Punjab could see a major change in how citizens interact with police services. For many, it could restore trust in public institutions by making them more accessible and people-centric.
