Islamabad: Emphasizing rigorous action against personnel liable for submitting weak or unfounded complaints, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a forensic examination of tax-related cases. Chairing a review meeting on the performance and ongoing cases of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Prime Minister encouraged accelerating the settlement of all tax conflicts and involving reputable attorneys to handle them properly.

According to him, the FBR is undergoing quick changes, and already clear benefits are seen. While those submitting defective cases will be punished, honest and hardworking authorities preparing cases on merit will be praised. PM Shehbaz told the briefing that 586 cases were decided in the High Court from July to December 2024 and 637 in the Supreme Court. Still pending in several courts and tribunals, 33,522 cases totaling Rs. 4.7 trillion still remain unresolved. To increase revenue collection and governance, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of quick actions to speed the disposal of these outstanding cases.
