PM meets Muslim World League chief, expresses commitment to give new dimension to mutual cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Muslim World League have reiterated their commitment to continue close cooperation to promote peace, religious tolerance and address common challenges facing the Muslim world. This consensus was expressed during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Muslim World League Secretary General Sheikh Dr Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa in Islamabad.

According to the Prime Minister’s House, the meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch and Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Saeed Al-Maliki. The two leaders reviewed the long-standing relations between Pakistan and the Muslim World League and discussed the possibilities of making cooperation in various fields more effective.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while appreciating the services of the Muslim World League in promoting contacts between Muslim countries on the platform of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), said that in the current global situation, the Muslim Ummah needs unity, moderation and a common strategy more than ever. He also described the role of the League in the ongoing efforts against Islamophobia and religious hatred at the international level as important.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his best wishes to the leadership of Saudi Arabia and said that Pakistan considers strong relations between the two brotherly countries important for the peace and development of the region.

Sheikh Dr Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, while appreciating Pakistan’s efforts for peace promotion and diplomatic reconciliation, said that Pakistan’s constructive role for stability in the region is valuable. He praised the efforts of the Pakistani leadership in recent peace initiatives and termed them a positive development for international cooperation.

According to the statement, it was also agreed in the meeting that Pakistan and the Muslim World League will further expand joint initiatives to eliminate extremism, promote interfaith dialogue, promote moderate thinking among the youth and resolve issues facing the Muslim community globally.

According to official sources, both sides also expressed their determination to strengthen mutual contacts at various international forums in the future and continue close consultations on common priorities so that joint efforts for the promotion of peace, tolerance and international cooperation can be made more effective.
