ISLAMABAD: As a result of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, another important phase of the negotiation process for the implementation of the recent peace agreement between the US and Iran is starting on Sunday in the Swiss city of Bergenstock, where representatives of both countries will hold technical-level talks mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.

According to the Foreign Office, these talks are being held in continuation of the recently concluded Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The main objective of these talks is to review the progress on various points of the agreement and to devise a practical mechanism for future steps.

Pakistani officials say that the Islamabad agreement has not only played an important role in reducing tensions in the region but has also set a positive diplomatic example at the global level. Pakistan is continuing its role as a mediator and facilitator in this entire process to further promote confidence-building between the two countries.

US Vice President JD Vance has also given positive indications regarding the negotiation process and said that the talks between the US and Iran are moving in the right direction. According to him, US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have already arrived in Switzerland to advance the next phase of negotiations.

On the other hand, Iran has also confirmed the participation of its delegation and made it clear that Tehran wants to fully implement the agreement. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai said that special attention will be paid to the US responsibilities in the negotiations and it will be seen to what extent the promises made under the agreement are being implemented.

According to analysts, the Islamabad agreement could prove to be an important milestone for stability in the Middle East. Under the agreement, the US has promised to ease some economic sanctions imposed on Iran and remove obstacles imposed on Iranian ports, while Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for international commercial shipping.

The agreement is also being considered extremely important in the context of recent fluctuations in energy prices in global markets. Experts say that the restoration of the Strait of Hormuz can stabilize the global oil supply chain and is expected to reduce pressure on energy prices.

The 14-point agreement reached in Islamabad has received widespread acclaim from the international community. Various countries and international organizations have described this development as a positive step for peace, stability and economic recovery in the region.

All eyes are now on the talks in Switzerland, where efforts will be made to implement the details of the agreement and lay the foundation for a comprehensive framework for the future. If these talks are successful, not only could relations between the United States and Iran improve, but there could also be a significant reduction in tensions throughout the Middle East.
