Islamabad — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan has played a key role in bringing Iran and the US to the same negotiating platform after almost 47 years, which is being termed as a positive development for peace and stability in the region.
In an interview given to Arab media, Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan, together with its partner countries and allies, promoted diplomatic contacts and tried to ensure that both countries participate in the negotiation process. According to him, this development has come at a time when the region is facing several challenges and uncertainties.
The foreign minister said that a possible conflict between the US and Iran could have proved disastrous not only for the region but also for the entire world. According to him, any such war would have had negative effects on the global economy, energy markets and international trade, which could have affected countries around the world.
Ishaq Dar said that three technical teams are participating in the ongoing talks, which are discussing various important issues. According to him, the aim of these talks is to find workable solutions to controversial issues and promote confidence-building.
He explained that the discussions at the technical level include important topics such as Iran’s nuclear program, frozen Iranian assets and the situation in Lebanon. According to the Foreign Minister, the parties have also made initial progress on some issues, including issues related to the level of enrichment of nuclear stocks.
The foreign minister said that the US and Iran have come to the conclusion that the resolution of disputes is possible only through diplomacy and negotiations, rather than the use of force. According to him, this thinking is forming the basis of the current negotiation process, and all parties want to move forward on this path.
According to political and diplomatic experts, Pakistan’s facilitation of such sensitive talks reflects its growing diplomatic role. Experts say that if these talks are successful, it can have positive effects not only on the Middle East but also on the global economy and international relations.
Ishaq Dar expressed hope that the ongoing talks will move forward in a positive direction and will help in reducing the differences between the two countries. According to him, continuation of diplomatic efforts is indispensable for peace, stability and economic development in the region.
He stressed that Pakistan has always supported the principles of dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful resolution and will continue to play its role in promoting peace in the region.
