US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a blockade of Iranian maritime borders has further complicated the security situation in the region. President Trump maintains that Iran’s military power has been paralyzed and only small boats remain, which he does not consider a threat to the United States. The aim of this blockade is not only to increase pressure on Iran but also to stop 98% of drug smuggling through maritime routes.

US military officials have made it clear that the blockade is temporary but its implementation will be very strict.

According to CENTCOM, any ship belonging to any company, if it is found to be connected to Iranian ports, will be stopped. Providing relief for international commercial ships, it has been said that ships that are not affiliated with Iran will be able to continue their journey after the inspection process.

This move is being described as an attempt to cut off Iran’s economic and military supply lines.
