Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has taken a tough stance on past agreements with the US and their implementation, saying that questions have repeatedly been raised about the practical status of the signatures of the US leadership.

According to state-run Iranian media, in his statement, Mojtaba Khamenei said that the alleged violations of agreements with Iran have strengthened the impression that the US president’s signatures cannot be fully trusted. He said that past experiences have made the effectiveness of such promises doubtful.

The Iranian Supreme Leader said that Iran’s position has not changed even in the context of the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to him, past experiences prove that American promises and written assurances have failed to deliver the desired results.

He sharply criticised American foreign policy, alleging that Washington’s behaviour has been based on pressure, hegemony and the use of force, which has further affected the atmosphere of trust between the two countries.

In his speech, Mojtaba Khamenei once again called the United States the “Great Satan” and said that for Iran, past events are another example of distrust in American policies. He claimed that the experiences of previous agreements and promises further strengthen Iran’s reservations.

The statement came at a time when the global focus is on diplomatic activities in the region and Iran-US relations. Differences between the two countries have persisted for many years on various political, security and nuclear issues, while recent statements have once again highlighted the hardline stances on both sides.
