Islamabad: In the current political situation of the country, the opposition parties have agreed to play a joint role in the parliament. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the parties in the opposition have agreed to form a joint opposition, under which a joint strategy will be adopted in future political and parliamentary matters.
Addressing a press conference along with the leaders of the united opposition in Islamabad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that today is an important day and this is the first step in the joint journey of the opposition. According to him, different parties will reach an agreement on their common points and future steps will be taken in mutual consultation.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed concern over the law and order situation in the country and said that the current situation is very serious. He clarified that the aim of the opposition alliance is to play an effective parliamentary role on common issues.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai also welcomed the formation of the alliance. He prayed that this development would prove to be good for Pakistan and the country would move towards development.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gauhar said that the important meeting of the opposition parties continued for several hours. In the meeting, various leaders presented their suggestions and it was agreed that a common stance would be adopted in the parliament on legislative matters as much as possible.
According to Barrister Gauhar, at the current stage, the opposition’s cooperation is mainly limited to the floor of the National Assembly and legislation. However, he said that communication and consultation between political parties should continue. He said that PPP leaders have also contacted the opposition parties.
He added that PTI has always wanted Maulana Fazlur Rehman to be part of the broader opposition alliance. According to him, all political parties can unite on the agenda of strengthening the country, parliament, judiciary and the Election Commission.
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also referred to the Supreme Court’s orders regarding the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan. The Supreme Court had issued orders on August 18 regarding medical facilities including shifting Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital, access to personal physicians Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Uzma Khan.
Later, the federal government filed a review petition against this court order and took the position that it is necessary to consider the legal procedure related to the transfer. This issue has also highlighted the political and parliamentary differences between the opposition and the government.
This decision to unite among the opposition parties has come at a time when different parties were consulting in parliament to take a common stand on the government’s legislation and the political and constitutional situation of the country. Several meetings of opposition leaders have also been held in recent days, in which the future parliamentary course of action was considered.
