Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian has described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States as a significant development for Iran’s future foreign policy, saying that Tehran must make practical efforts to ensure that the other side fully abides by the promises made in the agreement.

In a statement released on the social networking website X, President Masoud Peshkeshian said that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is the result of collective wisdom and consultation of the members of the Shura Council. According to him, all members of the Council agree on this document and consider it an important development in the context of national interest.

He said that, in his opinion, this Memorandum of Understanding can become the main reference for Iran’s foreign policy in the future; however, its success is conditional on all parties fulfilling their responsibilities and promises. He stressed that Iran should continue to take such steps at the diplomatic level that can ensure the implementation of the agreement.

President Pezzekian said that if the memorandum of understanding is fully implemented, it can strengthen the security not only of Iran but also of the entire region and its allies. According to him, diplomacy and mutual trust are indispensable for stability and de-escalation in the region.

According to analysts, President Pezzekian’s statement indicates that Tehran sees the memorandum of understanding as an important foundation in its future diplomatic strategy. However, the practical success of the agreement will depend on the extent to which the relevant parties fulfil their responsibilities. Iran’s insistence on adhering to the agreement comes at a time when regional security and diplomatic relations are the focus of global attention.
