Kasur: The flood situation in Kasur region has become serious after India released a new water release in Sutlej River without any prior notice. The water flow at Ganda Singh Wala has increased to a dangerous level of 101,000 cusecs, which has spread severe panic among the local population.
Dangerous level crossed and land routes blocked
As a result of the fresh flood release, the water level has risen rapidly, and at Head Ganda Singh, this level has crossed the dangerous level of 20 feet. This situation has cut off land routes of dozens of villages and transportation in the area has been severely affected.
- Affected villages: Hakuvala, Kalu Wada, Bhikhi Wind Ala, and Jumay Wala.
- Roads closed: Dhup Sari, Nagar Aimanpura, Maste Ki Gatti, and Kalingar Gaon.
Local sources say that no significant steps have been taken by the administration to provide relief to the flood victims yet.
PDMA alert: Possibility of moderate flooding
On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood alert at Ganda Singh Wala. - According to a PDMA spokesperson, there is a possibility of moderate flooding at Ganda Singh Wala in the next two days.
- He also clarified that the flow of water in the Sutlej and Ravi rivers depends directly on the release from Indian water bodies.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has issued instructions to all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert on the instructions of the Chief Minister Punjab. Apart from the district administration, relevant departments such as Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communications, Local Government, and Livestock have also been placed on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
