Lahore: Important decisions have been taken regarding the Clean Punjab Program in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, under which strict steps will be taken to improve the standard of cleanliness in the province. It was decided in the meeting that litterers will now have to face fines and immediate action will be taken against those polluting public places.

Another important decision taken in the meeting was that the machinery used for cleaning across the province will be gradually converted to electric vehicles (EVs) to achieve the targets of eco-friendly transport. Officials said that those who throw garbage in commercial areas and on approved roads will also face stiff fines as per the law.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that “an effective cleaning system should have been in place years ago, but we have started from scratch and are improving with time. The positive feedback we are getting from the public is encouraging for us.”

An environmentalist welcomed the decision, saying that fines and the use of electric cleaning vehicles can provide an effective solution to the current environmental challenges, provided it is implemented consistently.
