TCP opens tender for sugar import, receives bids from three companies

Karachi: Keeping in mind the possible shortage of sugar in the country, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has opened an international tender for the import of one lakh metric tons of sugar.

According to the details, three different companies submitted their bids for the supply of sugar.

The first company, Small Green Sugar, offered $542.59 per ton, while the second company bid to supply medium green sugar at $567.5 per ton.
Meanwhile, a third company offered the lowest price of $533 per tonne for the supply of small-grain sugar.

Experts say that despite the fluctuations in sugar prices in the global market, these bids received by Pakistan are at a reasonable level. According to them, if the government decides in a transparent manner, this import will improve the availability of sugar in the market and may reduce the pressure on price increases.

According to analysts, the local market has seen an increase in sugar prices in recent weeks, and this move by TCP has emerged as an immediate strategy by the government to keep prices under control.
