KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed the business week on a negative note, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 669 points to settle at 166,419 points, according to the exchange’s weekly market update.
The benchmark index fluctuated within a range of 2,927 points during the week. It touched a high of 166,988 points and a low of 164,060 points, reflecting continued movement in share prices throughout the trading sessions.
Trading activity remained substantial, with approximately 2.15 billion shares changing hands during the week. The total value of these transactions stood at Rs89 billion.
The market’s overall valuation also declined during the period. Market capitalisation fell by Rs89 billion to Rs18.479 trillion by the end of the trading week.
The weekly decline indicates that the benchmark index ended below its previous closing level. However, the index’s movement alone does not establish the reasons behind the market’s performance.
Investors generally monitor corporate earnings, interest rate expectations, economic indicators and domestic and international developments when assessing the outlook for equities. The direction of these factors may influence trading activity and investor sentiment in the coming sessions.
