Islamabad: The federal government has announced the latest prices of petroleum products and has slightly reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new prices have been implemented immediately, which will provide limited financial relief to consumers.
According to the official announcement, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by 66 paise per litre. The government says that this decision was taken after reviewing the prices of crude oil in the global market, import costs and other economic indicators.
According to the notification, a reduction of 12 paise per litre has also been approved in the price of petrol. Although the rate of reduction is modest, it is the latest decision taken by the government after a recent review of prices.
According to the government, the prices of petroleum products are determined by taking into account international crude oil prices, the value of the US dollar against the rupee, taxes, import costs and other relevant financial factors. In this context, prices are reviewed every fortnight to keep local rates in line with global trends.
Economists say that the recent slight reduction in petrol and diesel prices may benefit transport, logistics and other fuel-dependent sectors to a limited extent, but its immediate and significant economic impact is not expected. According to them, global oil market trends, import costs and government policy will play an important role in determining future prices.
Changes in the prices of petroleum products are considered important economic indicators in the context of inflation, transportation costs and business activities, which are constantly monitored by the public, industry and trade circles. The government is of the opinion that transparent procedures and international market conditions are given primary importance in determining prices.
