KARACHI: The local assembly plant of BYD and Mega Motor Company (MMC) in Gharo is expected to become operational in the second half of 2026, with construction of the facility now in its final stages.
According to the company, equipment installation and commissioning activities are currently under way at the purpose-built new energy vehicle (NEV) assembly plant.
The facility has been developed in less than 18 months and is expected to become one of the major developments in Pakistan’s emerging electric and new energy vehicle sector.
The company said the plant would undergo equipment validation, production trials and quality checks before commercial-scale manufacturing begins.
These processes are intended to ensure that the facility and its production operations meet BYD’s global manufacturing and quality standards, it added.
The start of local assembly is expected to mark another step in the development of Pakistan’s NEV market, as automakers seek to establish local manufacturing capacity for electric and other new energy vehicles.
