Islamabad: The government of Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank have signed a new financing agreement to improve the country’s transport and water management system. According to the agreements, $10 million will be released for the upgrade of the ML-1 Karachi to Rohri section, $3.8 million for the Quetta BRT, and an additional $48 million for the Balochistan Water Resources Development sector.
Secretary Economic Affairs Muhammad Karim, Secretary Railways Mazhar Ali Shah and ADB Country Director Emma Fan attended the signing ceremony.
Emma Fan said that ADB will continue to fully support Pakistan in fulfilling its development priorities.
According to economists, transport and water projects will strengthen the core sectors of the country’s economy. They say that the upgrade of ML-1 will modernize rail transport across the country, while the water projects in Balochistan will directly increase agricultural production.
