Karachi: In order to increase the tax base in Pakistan, the FBR has launched a new audit campaign against high-income sectors, in which income records are being sought from renowned doctors and luxury beauty salons in major cities in the first phase.

According to the data, 250 expensive doctors are included in the initial phase of the audit. According to sources, notices have been sent to 100 doctors from Karachi and Lahore and 50 from Islamabad, whose fees are considered the highest in the market.

Officials say that after reports of tax evasion in the beauty parlour industry and high-end cosmetic business, the FBR has also included these sectors in the audit list. In addition, after tax evasion was revealed in the paint industry, action is being prepared against the relevant companies.

The FBR has included 600 private auditors for the audit campaign, and the services of 200 more auditors will be sought soon. A total of 2,000 private auditors will be included in the network under the long-term plan.

Economic experts say that for a long time in Pakistan, sectors that generate huge earnings have been outside the tax net.

According to economic analyst Zara Khan:
“If the audit reaches the cash-based and high-profit sectors of big cities, then tax revenue can increase significantly. The real test is the consistent and indiscriminate application of the law.”

According to sources, private auditors have been given clear instructions that taxpayer information will be kept confidential.
