Lahore: The Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms, high-strength winds and intermittent rains in various parts of the country, including Punjab, for the coming five days and has issued an advisory to the people to take precautionary measures. The new series of rain is expected to bring the weather nice for the time being, and with it, the heat will substantially reduce, but heavy rain in some regions can also cause issues in the urban and low-lying regions, experts said.

The recent rain in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and other districts had a significant impact on the weather. The dropping temperature was reported as the result of the cold winds and cloudiness, and it has also seen a marked drop in humidity. The Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of occasional rain and strong winds for the next few days.

A meteorological official said the temperature observed in Lahore was 27 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature would reach up to 32 degrees Celsius. Because of the rain and strong wind, the temperature can drop further, and citizens will be able to get some respite from the heat.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised all deputy commissioners, rescue organisations and other departments to stay vigilant in the wake of a series of rains. The agency has warned of a potential rise in water levels in some rivers in the event of heavy rains, and there is a possibility for water to collect in low-lying areas.

The PDMA has directed the relevant institutions to keep machinery, rescue teams and other necessary resources ready at all times to deal with the emergency situation so that immediate action can be taken in any possible situation.

During the rainy season, citizens are advised to not travel unless necessary and avoid electricity poles, low-lying areas, dilapidated buildings and storm drains. Additionally, parents have been advised to not allow their children to come close to open drains and high-flowing areas during the rains.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public to keep abreast of the latest weather forecast to prevent any kind of damage from being sustained during the rainy season, while urging them to follow the instructions given by other relevant agencies.
