Islamabad: It has been decided to keep 24 government educational institutions closed from September 22 due to security arrangements in the federal capital. Teaching activities will remain suspended in the relevant institutions for the time being.
According to sources related to the education department, these schools and colleges will be used to establish additional police personnel. Government buildings have been identified to accommodate officials coming from different areas.
The institutions to be closed include schools and colleges in different sectors of the capital. In addition to several institutions in G-6, F-6, F-7 and G-7, some educational institutions in G-8, G-9, G-10, G-13, I-9 and I-10 are also included in the list. Institutions in some suburban areas, including Tarnol, Sanjani, Sihala and Rawal Dam, will also be affected.
According to the authorities, apart from these 24 institutions, other educational institutions in Islamabad will remain open as usual. Information available regarding educational institutions in Rawalpindi also indicates that educational activities are continuing as usual there.
Principals and non-teaching staff in the closed institutions will perform their duties as usual. However, students and teachers will not be required to come to the campus. This arrangement is being made for the temporary presence of security personnel.
Following the announcements of political protest activities in Islamabad, the implementation of the security plan has also been accelerated. Containers and other barriers are being placed at different places in the city. Security has also been increased in the Red Zone.
According to available reports, PTI has announced an Islamabad march on September 27. Jamaat-e-Islami and Kisan Ittehad have also announced protest activities in the capital. In view of these activities, the administration has made arrangements for additional personnel and accommodation.
The decision to temporarily close educational institutions is linked to security needs. The authorities have decided to run other educational institutions as usual, which has limited the management to specific institutions instead of completely stopping educational activities in the capital.
