Islamabad: Another increase in electricity bills is going to increase the financial pressure on consumers. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued a notification to increase the price of electricity by 52 paisa per unit under the quarterly adjustment.
After the decision of Nepra, consumers across the country will have to pay an additional amount during the next three months. The additional collection will be included in the bills of September, October and November. A total of Rs 12.67 billion will be collected from electricity consumers in this regard.
According to officials, the increase in the price is related to the second quarterly adjustment of this year. This means that consumers will have to bear the additional amount of adjustment for a fixed period in addition to the basic electricity rate.
The scope of the new decision has not been limited to any one electricity distribution company. The notification will apply to consumers using electricity in different parts of the country, including K-Electric.
The quarterly adjustment mechanism in electricity prices allows for changes in rates, taking into account costs and other relevant factors in the energy sector. However, each new increase has a direct impact on the monthly budget of household and business consumers.
Nepra had earlier approved the quarterly adjustment in this matter. After receiving approval from the federal government, the regulatory authority issued a formal notification, along with which the process of additional collections has also become clear.
After the new increase, consumers will have to pay an additional 52 paisa per unit in the next three electricity bills. The total amount borne by each consumer may vary due to the increase or decrease in electricity consumption; however, the government is expected to collect an additional Rs 12.67 billion.
