Why Do Silver Prices Change?

The price of silver in Pakistan changes regularly. Local shopkeepers update their rates based on two main factors: the spot price of silver in the international market and the exchange rate of the US Dollar against the Pakistani Rupee.

Buying silver is popular among investors and families because it is much more affordable than gold. It offers a low-cost entry point for building physical savings. Additionally, strong global industrial demand—such as in solar technology and electronics manufacturing—helps maintain silver’s long-term value against inflation.

Silver Nisab for Zakat

To calculate whether Zakat is due on your wealth using the silver Nisab standard, check if your net qualifying assets equal or exceed the value of 52.5 tolas of pure silver. With today’s price of Rs. 6,301 per tola, the Nisab threshold stands at Rs. 330,802.50. If your total savings, cash, gold, silver, or business assets remain above this figure for a full Islamic year, Zakat becomes payable.
