Pakistan Marks 9 Muharram with Devotion, Security and Remembrance of Karbala

ISLAMABAD: 9th Muharram was celebrated with devotion and respect across the country, where gatherings and mourning processions were held in memory of the martyrs of Karbala. Mourners in different cities paid tribute to the great sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, while water, milk and syrup were also arranged on the procession routes.

The main procession of 9th Muharram in Karachi started from Nishtar Park and, passing through its traditional routes, ended at Imambargah Hussainiyya Irani in Kharadar. Thousands of mourners participated in the procession, who remembered the martyrs of Karbala through lamentations and mourning. Extraordinary security arrangements were made in the city and the procession routes were completely secured.

In Lahore, the main procession reached Imambargah Khema Sadat, where a large number of mourners participated. Mourning gatherings were also held in different areas of the city, in which scholars shed light on the historical and religious significance of the Karbala incident.

In Multan, the main procession came out from Imambargah Mumtazabad, while in Bahawalpur, the main procession was taken out from Beriwala Chowk. In Och Sharif, a procession of the image of knowledge was taken out, where mourners participated with great devotion.

In Jhang, the main procession of the image of knowledge came out from Imambargah Qasr Zahra, while in Gujranwala, a procession of the image of Zuljinah was taken out from Imambargah Qasr Abu Talib. A large number of mourners participated in these processions and the sacrifices of the martyrs of Karbala were remembered.

9th Muharram processions were also taken out in other cities including Chiniot, Gujarat, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and Mandi Bahauddin. Religious gatherings were held at various places where speakers highlighted the message of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA)’s philosophy of sacrifice, truth and honesty, and struggle against oppression.

In a unique tradition, a procession was taken out on boats in the Indus River in Mari area of ​​Mianwali. This procession gained special attention at the local level and a large number of people participated in it.

9 Muharram processions and gatherings were also held in various cities of Sindh. In Hyderabad, the main procession started from Latifabad Unit No. 5, which included the coffin, Alam Pak and Zul Jinnah. Mourners also took out processions in Mirpurkhas and Daharki in memory of the martyrs of Karbala.

Thousands of people participated in the main procession of the centuries-old Taaziya in Sehwan Sharif. This procession is considered to be of historical importance and a large number of mourners participate in it every year.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the main procession of Dera Ismail Khan started from Imambargah Bimo Shah. Strict security arrangements were made in the areas declared sensitive while security agencies were constantly monitoring. In Hangu, the mourning procession started from Mohalla Saidan and reached the main Imambargah Shahu Road.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, 9 Muharram was also celebrated with devotion and respect. In Gilgit, the main procession started from Imambargah Qasr Akbar Dakpora, where the mourners of Hussain (RA) paid tribute to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his martyred companions.

Comprehensive security arrangements were made by the federal and provincial governments across the country. Police, Rangers and other law enforcement officials were deployed along the procession routes, while CCTV cameras and control rooms were also used for surveillance.

These processions and gatherings held on the occasion of 9 Muharram were not only an expression of religious devotion but also highlighted the message of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA)’s sacrifice, patience, perseverance and struggle for truth, which is still considered a beacon of light for Muslims around the world.
