Islamabad: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has officially announced that no evidence of sighting the Shawwal moon 1447 AH has been received from any part of Pakistan, after which Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated with religious fervor across the country on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Islamabad today, Thursday, March 19, under the chairmanship of Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Representatives of the Meteorological Department, SUPARCO and the Ministry of Religious Affairs attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, meetings of zonal committees were also held in all provincial capitals including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar, where evidence regarding the sighting of the moon was collected.

Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, while addressing a press conference, said that the weather remained cloudy in most parts of the country, while there was no report of moon sighting even from areas where the sky was clear.

He announced that since the moon was not sighted on 29th Ramadan, the month of Ramadan will now consist of 30 days and 1st Shawwal (Eid al-Fitr) will be on Saturday.

It should be noted that the Meteorological Department and Suparco had already predicted that the chances of its sighting on March 19 due to the waning age of the moon are very low.

On the other hand, Eid al-Fitr is being celebrated in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates tomorrow, Friday, March 20.

The government of Pakistan has already announced holidays on the occasion of Eid, after which citizens are now finalizing preparations to celebrate Eid with their loved ones.
