Islamabad: Pakistan’s efforts against malnutrition have been given a new dimension by the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP)’s Nasunuma Program. According to the latest review report, the rate of stunting among children in the country has reduced by 6.4 percent.
A statement issued by BISP said that a report by the Institute for Global Health and Development (a private university) has confirmed this success, which shows that the program has delivered excellent results in practice.
So far, more than 3.5 million women and children have benefited from this program, while 540 centers are fully functional in 156 districts where maternal and child care, immunization, cash assistance and nutritional supplements are provided.
According to BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid, “The Nasunuma Program is actually an attempt to secure Pakistan’s future because healthy mothers and children are the guarantee of a developed society.”
