Karachi: The government has announced to maintain the current prices of petrol and high-speed diesel, depriving the public of the expected reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
According to the notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol will remain at Rs 253.17 per liter and the price of high-speed diesel at Rs 257.08 per liter.
Earlier, it was expected in the market that the government would provide relief to the public due to the reduction in crude oil prices in the global market, possible relaxation in customs duty and stability in the currency rate.
According to reports, the prices of kerosene and light diesel oil were also being shown to be likely to decrease, but no change was made in the final decision.
According to energy experts, the government is currently trying to maintain fiscal balance, which is why the price reduction has been postponed. They say that if prices remain stable in the global market, then the hope of getting relief to the public may arise again in the next fortnight.
The public could not get relief, it was announced that petrol and diesel prices would be maintained.
