Islamabad: Pakistan has presented a coherent strategy to revive Afghan transit trade. According to a notification issued by the Directorate Transit Trade Customs, the trade operation will be completed in three phases, and the initial focus is on the Chaman route.
The first phase includes the nine vehicles that were returned in the first phase, the second phase will process 74 vehicles, and the third phase will include the vehicles at the halting yard. 217 vehicles will be allowed to cross the border. Officials have emphasized that vehicles will be monitored at every stage to ensure that the transit trade process is transparent, orderly, and efficient.
This step is particularly important, as Afghan transit trade routes are key from the perspective of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral trade relations and the restoration of regional corridors. The current model is expected to restore trade routes quickly and sustainably, while also planning to overcome potential challenges such as security, logistical flows, and border barriers.
