Lahore: The Punjab government has taken a major step to directly deliver the benefits of the reduction in the prices of petroleum products to the people. On the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, public and goods transport fares have been reduced by 5 percent across the province, including Lahore.
The new fares are being displayed at all general bus stands and bases, while the district administration and the transport department have been instructed to strictly implement them.
The government has warned transporters that strict action will be taken against those who charge extra fares from the public. In the first phase, 10 vehicles were stopped in police stations in Lahore, challans were issued for 7 vehicles and a fine of Rs 80,000 was imposed.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz says that the benefit of the reduction in petroleum products should go directly to the people, exploitation will not be tolerated under any circumstances. She added that providing relief to the common man is the top priority of the government.
