Lahore: The Punjab government has approved a monthly stipend package worth Rs 4.217 billion for more than 8,000 interns serving in colleges.
Interns working at the intermediate level will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 55,000, and interns working at the BS level will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 65,000.
The internship programme will be based on a period of 7 months for intermediate interns and 10 months for BS interns. All interns will also be issued a certificate of experience upon completion of the term.
The programme also keeps social inclusion in mind: 404 seats have been reserved for minorities, 243 seats for the disabled and 40 seats for the transgender community.
This allocated amount will be spent not only on the stipends of the interns but also on administrative expenses. The government says that this initiative is part of encouraging young teachers, improving the quality of education and promoting social inclusion.
