Karachi: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new automated system, Lost & Stolen Device System, which is used for identification and instant blocking of stolen or lost mobiles.

According to this service, users can file a request on complaint.pta.gov.pk using their provided IMEI number or register a complaint from PTA’s CMS mobile app. The applicant is provided with a reference number, and the phone is blocked within 24 to 36 hours.

In case the phone is found, the user can apply for unblocking with the same details, and an SMS confirmation of unblocking is received.

This blocking system is integrated with the PTA’s central DIRBS infrastructure, which makes the phone unusable on any Pakistani network, even if the SIM is changed.

The PTA has made it clear to users that under no circumstances should they copy-paste or change the IMEI of their mobile, and in case of loss of the mobile, they should file a complaint without delay so that personal data is protected.
